Derek Smith's Biography:

Derek Smith’s well-rounded experience ensures that he can provide clients with a unique business perspective to their assignments.

He honed his skills in strategic planning and brand marketing while working in the advertising industry, initially with Leo Burnett, then later with Ted Bates and Grey Worldwide. As Senior Vice-President, Group Director, he directed the advertising and marketing activities of leading multi-national corporations, including Kraft General Foods, Maple Leaf Foods, M&M Mars, Procter & Gamble, SmithKline Beecham, Shulton International, Union Carbide-Glad Brands and Warner-Lambert.

Throughout this time, Smith had significant involvement in the introduction of over forty new products and product line extensions. He was elected to the Executive Management Group of Ted Bates and Grey Worldwide.

Subsequently, Smith founded Anvil Planning+Communications, a company specializing in branding, planning and corporate communications services. Anvil works with recognized companies in Canada and the US. (Refer to client list under ‘Our Work’)

He is a graduate of the Institute of Canadian Advertising (ICA) and he is a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and the Toronto Board of Trade.

Derek Smith is a fitness enthusiast and sportsman. He has completed numerous marathons, half-marathons and 10K races. Currently, he is working hard on the eternal pursuit of improving a somewhat less-than-average golf game.
